Nutrition is a touchy subject. It's a strange thing really. You can tell someone they're arrogant, racist, sexist or pigheaded but don't you dare tell them what to eat.
Perhaps this is because our food is so strongly connected to our social and cultural experiences? Yes, we all love food and sharing meals together, but somewhere along the way we have become very confused about what we should be eating if we want to be healthy.
Let me lay it out really simply here in my honest opinion
The less processed, refined and carnivorous our diet the better
Processed and packaged foods such as bread, flour, biscuits, oils, artificial additives and soft drinks.
Whole plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, nuts and seeds.
It's really that simple. Forget all the crap you hear people saying about carbs being the devil and goji berries having magical powers. Just eat more plants. A lot more.
Oh and the animal product thing
Yeah, I’m vegan but I'm less on the crazy and preachy side. I will say this though. The research is clear, there are various health benefits to eating more plant foods. Likewise, there are various problems with eating animal products. If physical health is important to you then your diet really should be centred around unrefined plant foods. It's up to you how far you want to take that. Going vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian are all steps in the right direction though if you want to live a long and healthy life.
